3D print weight calculator: grams from volume

A printed part is not solid plastic. An FDM part is a skin of solid walls around a partly filled interior, so it weighs less than the same volume of material. This calculator estimates the printed weight from two numbers every CAD tool reports: the volume and the surface area.

Estimate the weight

Printed weight per part: -

Solid weight of the same volume: -

Weight of the batch: -

How it is calculated

shell = min(V, A x w) mass = density x (shell + (V - shell) x infill)

Assumptions and limits

This is an estimate for planning, not a weighed part. It leaves out supports, the brim and the extra material where walls meet the infill, so a real part usually comes out somewhat heavier. A thin part that is mostly skin is estimated better than a thick one, where the infill pattern matters more.
