For engineers who work with AI assistants

Get a 3D printing price from inside your AI assistant

3Descu runs a public MCP server: the same pricing engine as the online calculator, callable from Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, VS Code and any other assistant that speaks the Model Context Protocol. Ask about a part in the chat and the answer comes back with a price, production days and a link to order. No account and no API key.

Server address

https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp

Transport: MCP Streamable HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0 over a single POST. No authentication and no sessions.

How it works, in four steps

  1. Ask. Paste a link to an STL or OBJ file, or describe the part, and ask what it costs.
  2. Measure. analyze_model downloads the file and measures its volume, bounding box and surface area.
  3. Price. estimate_price runs the calculator's own pricing engine and returns Economy, Standard and Express prices with production days.
  4. Order. The answer links to the calculator, where the order is placed. A person at 3Descu reviews every order before production.

The four tools

The tools of the 3Descu MCP server, in the order an assistant uses them
ToolWhat it does
get_capabilitiesWhat can be made: processes, accepted file formats, layer heights, production tiers and the minimum order.
list_materialsThe FDM and SLA materials, with the id that estimate_price expects.
analyze_modelDownloads an STL or OBJ file from a public https link, up to 25 MB, and measures volume, bounding box, surface area and whether the mesh is watertight.
estimate_pricePrices the part in EUR across Economy, Standard and Express, with production days, using the same engine as the calculator. Shipping and VAT are not included.

analyze_model only fetches from well-known model and file hosts: Printables, Thingiverse, Thangs, Cults3D, MyMiniFactory, GitHub, GitLab, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, GrabCAD, Onshape, 3descu.com. A file anywhere else can be uploaded to the calculator, which also takes STEP and 3MF.

Set it up in your assistant

Every client below connects to the same address. Pick yours, paste the snippet and restart the client if it asks.

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

On a plan with custom connectors: open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste the server address and save. No authentication is needed.

Or, in the configuration file claude_desktop_config.json, through the mcp-remote bridge (needs Node.js):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "3descu": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
Claude Code

Run this once in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http 3descu https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp
Cursor

Add this to .cursor/mcp.json in the project, or to ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "3descu": {
      "url": "https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp"
    }
  }
}
VS Code with GitHub Copilot

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json, then turn on the 3descu tools in Copilot Chat agent mode:

{
  "servers": {
    "3descu": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp"
    }
  }
}
ChatGPT

On plans that offer developer mode: turn developer mode on in the settings for apps and connectors, create a connector, paste the server address and choose no authentication. Availability and menu names depend on the plan.

Any other MCP client

Point it at the server address with the Streamable HTTP transport and no authentication. A GET request to the same address returns a short description of the server, and the discovery file is at /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json.

A prompt to try

With a link to the file, the answer is a single price:

Use the 3descu tools. What do 50 pieces of this part cost in PETG, delivered to Germany? [link to your STL file]

Without a file, describe the part. The answer is then a range, because surface area decides how much material a part uses:

Use the 3descu tools to price 10 brackets in ASA, each about 80 by 40 by 30 mm with a volume of 35 cm3.

Questions engineers ask

Is it free?

Yes. There is no account, no API key and no charge for asking. Fair-use limits apply per caller: 20 file analyses and 120 price estimates an hour.

Is my file stored?

No. analyze_model downloads the file, measures it and answers. The file and its geometry are not saved and no account is created. A file uploaded to place an order is kept for 90 days, like every order file.

Is the price binding?

The answer is an estimate from the same engine as the calculator, and with a file link it is the figure the calculator shows for the same settings. Shipping and VAT are not included. The order itself is placed in the calculator, and a person at 3Descu reviews every order before production.

What about more than 1000 pieces?

The server prices up to 1000 pieces of a part. Above that, volume pricing is agreed with a person: request a quote in the calculator and a person at 3Descu replies the same business day.

Which materials?

Every material the calculator prices automatically, in FDM and SLA resin. list_materials returns the current list with ids, and the materials pages describe each one. Colour matching and custom materials are quoted by a person, not by the server.

The factory behind the answer

3Descu is an ISO 9001:2015 certified factory in Romania with 200+ FDM and SLA printers. The parts an assistant prices are made on those machines.
